Harrington mourns Belote

May 17, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Just one night after losing one of their own, Delaware horsemen raced with heavy hearts Tuesday night at Harrington Raceway.

Ill-fated driver-trainer Hal Belote was remembered prior to the races. An outpouring of horsemen and track officals gathered to honor the popular horsemen with a brief ceremony followed by a moment of silence.

Belote was killed in a fatal racing accident Monday night at Harrington, while three other drivers were injured. Steve Warrington suffered torn knee ligaments and facial lacerations, while Brandon Givens had a compound leg fracture. Brad Hanners was also hospitalized, but his injuries were not believed to be serious.

Belote's brother, Sam, drove in four races and won the 14th with Friday Noon ($22.00).

In the featured events, Milford Shaw's Bayland Lady (1:56.2, Jim King Jr.) and Debbie Avery's Fake the Moment N (1:54.2, Anthony Morgan) each were victorious.

Racing continues Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. post time.
