Southwind Wasabi, a 3-year-old filly by Windsong's Legacy who won the Moni Maker Trot and American National earlier this year, topped the mixed portion of the Standardbred Horse Sales Company auction in Harrisburg on Saturday when she was sold for $220,000. Burke Racing LLC bought the filly, who sports a mark of 1:52.4 taken this year. Chuck Sylvester trained the filly and shared ownership.
Other top prices included the $100,000 that trainer Ross Croghan bid for the well known Martha Maxine, the pacer who raced under the assumption that she was a female until earlier this year, when a high steroid test prompted further tests that proved the horse was a male.
The two-day mixed portion of the Standardbred Horse Sale saw 914 horses or stallion shares sold for a total of $20,165,600 and an average of $22,063. In 2008, a total of 1104 horses or stallion shares were sold for a total of $24,473,000 and an average of $22,168.
