Hartmann, a Like A Prayer half brother to the $1.8-million winner Cameron Hall, continues to do nothing wrong as he posted his seventh win in as many career starts Sunday night at The Red Mile, capturing his $25,000 Kentucky Sire Stakes division with a 1:55.2 effort. The 3-year-old trotter made just four baby races last fall for trainer Jimmy Takter, and has since changed connections and is in the barn of trainer Brent Davis for owner Hatfield Stables of Columbus, Ohio.
Likely the prohibitive favorite in next Sunday's $300,000 Sire Stakes final, part of a $2.4 million Unbridled Evening of Champions extravaganza, Hartmann was driven by Jeff Nisonger. Hartmann floated up on the outside for Nisonger and took the lead right past the quarter pole in route to his fourth straight Red Mile score.
Hartmann returned $2.20 for the win to his many backers. Like A Dream was second for driver Ron Pierce, while Chaplin Hall and Brad Hanners were third. (with files from The Red Mile)
