Peter Haughton Memorial winner Muscle Hill easily won a qualifier at The Red Mile Tuesday morning, his second morning start since capturing that $500,000 race at the Meadowlands in late July. With Andrew McCarthy driving for trainer Greg Peck in the qualifier, the 2-year-old Muscle Hill had the lead at the 1:00 half and 1:30.2 three-quarters clocking before turning on the burners and trotting home in :26.2 to seal the 1:56.4 victory, defeating runner-up, the $350,000 yearling purchase Mr. Cantab, by 10 1/4 lengths. In his previous qualifier at The Red Mile on Sept. 2, Muscle Hall had scored in 1:59.
A $55,000 yearling purchase by Jerry Silva and TLP Stable, Muscle Hill has three wins and a second in four pari-mutuel starts, earning $357,437. He trotted his career best of 1:55 while taking home the trophy in the rich Haughton final.
Bred by Winbak Farm, Muscle Hill is a son of Muscles Yankee and a full brother to 2004 Valley Victory and American National winner Diesel Don. Muscle Hill's dam, the American Winner mare Yankee Blondie, is a half sister to world champion 2-year-old TV Yankee, who set his record of 1:56 in a 1982 time trial.
