Hawaiian Drink, Twist N Clout claim victory at Indiana Downs

David Miller earned a driving double Friday evening, September 5 at Indiana Downs, sweeping both Kentuckiana Stallion Management Stakes contests for freshman pacing fillies. Hawaiian Drink held off Notjustaprettyface in 1:53.3 while Twist N Clout crushed the field in a time of 1:53.4.

In the first $104,900 division, Miller and Hawaiian Drink brushed to the lead on the backstretch, passing the half-mile station in :56.4. The I Am A Fool filly, half of a 1-5 favored entry, remained in control throughout the circuit, fighting off a late challenge by Notjustaprettyface and Trace Tetrick at the wire to win by a neck. Thou Shalt Not and Brent Holland finished third.

“Right now she’s doing everything right,” Miller said of the Mark Harder-trained filly. “She’s very versatile; she can race either way. I was a little concerned late, but she dug right in.”

Owned by Bulletproof Enterprises of Boca Raton, Fla., Hawaiian Drink has won four of five starts. With the victory, the filly now possesses nearly $98,000 in seasonal earnings.

Miller completed the sweep in dominating fashion, guiding Val D’Or Farms’ Twist N Clout to an open lengths score, clocked in 1:53.4. The Joe Holloway trainee, starting from post two, caught a perfect trip behind pacesetter Limestone Cowgirl. Miller sat patiently in second with the Western Ideal filly, pulling from the pylons in the last turn and sprinting away from the competition. Twist N Clout hit the wire eight and one-half lengths in front. Attitude Hanover was second while Perfectionist rounded out the trifecta.

“She’s always had a real good brush to her but couldn’t carry it very far,” Miller added. “Tonight she paced all the way through the stretch.”

A winner in four of seven starts, Twist N Clout lowered her lifetime best by one-fifth of a second. Her seasonal bankroll stands at $220,151.
