A severe thunderstorm Wednesday afternoon caused heavy damage to the Lawrence Bennett Harness Horse Racing facility near Hawkinsville, Ga. Nine of the 10 barns at the site were damaged, including three that had its roofs totally ripped away, three with about half its roofs torn away, and three that sustained lesser damage.
There was no horses or humans at the training center when the storm hit. Preliminary estimates put the cost of the damage at well over $100,000. The city of Hawkinsville owns the facility but leases it to a Canadian couple.
