Chicago Harness Racing returns to the in-town track on Saturday, May 6, as Hawthorne Race Course opens its37-night meet. Hawthorne will race six nights a week with a 7:20 p.m. post Tuesday through Saturday and a 6:30 p.m. post on Sundays and on opening night.

To highlight the spring meeting, Hawthorne will present a pair of “Super Saturdays”. The second annual “Night Of Champions” will be held on Saturday, June 3, and on Saturday, June 17, the Dygert and Carey finals and two key Grand Circuit World Series races will be held.

On the “Night of Champions” a total of seven championship finals, all with estimated purses of $50,000, will be presented. Illinois-bred 3-year-old pacers and trotters of both sexes will slug it out in four of the finals, while older Illinois-breds will also share the limelight in three events, two for pacers and one for trotters.

The “Night Of Champions” events are named after some of the greatest Standardbred stars in Hawthorne and Illinois harness history.
