Helens Colt and Muscles Joy turned in winning performances in their respective $30,145 divisions of the New Jersey Futurity for 2-year-old trotters on Wednesday at Freehold Raceway.

In the colts and geldings division, Helens Colt ($13.40) caught Ocean Front, a son of Muscles Yankee, for a three-quarter length victory in a lifetime best of 2:00.3. Appalach Dream, who is by Yankee Glide, was 2 1/4 lengths back in third.

Helens Colt, driven by Jeff Gregory and trained by Ike Hardiman, is a son of Dream Vacation out of the Muscles Yankee’s mare Mrs. Muscles. It was the trotter’s second straight win in five starts and pushed his earnings over $45,000 for Hardiman, who co-owns with Jamie Bauslaugh of DeLeon Springs, Fla.

Muscles Joy ($4.80) prevailed by 3 3/4 lengths over Winbak Brat, who edged out Dreamanda for second in the fillies division.

Muscles Joy and Winbak Brat are both by Muscles Yankee while Dreamanda is by Dream Vacation.

Muscles Joy, who has finished in the money in six of seven starts, posted her first career victory in the $78,600 Bluegrass on Sept. 25. The New Jersey Futurity was her second trip to the winner’s circle and lifted her earnings to more than $83,000.

Trained by Randy Beeckman, Muscles Joy trotted the mile in 2:00 with David Miller driving. She is co-owned by Beeckman, Miller’s Stable Inc. of DeLeon Springs, Fla., and John Tronco of Lumberton, N.J.

The New Jersey Futurities are sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey. The 3-year-old trotting divisions will be offered on Oct. 25 and the 2-year-old pacing divisions will take place on Oct. 26, all at Freehold. (SBOANJ)
