He's Great, a winner of eight of 33 starts and a lifetime mark of 1:51.3 in 2009, lived up to his name, winning the $20,000 claiming pace Friday at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in the horse's initial start of the 2010 season.
The 6-year-old gelding, trained by Laura Shock and driven by Eric Goodell, stopped the timer in 1:52.3 over a fast track, winning by five lengths over The Quiet Village (Jim Morrill Jr.) with third going to Cardmaster (Matt Kakaley). He's Great also was claimed out of the 10th race of the evening.
George Napolitano Jr., continued on his winning ways of the young season, collecting five victories on the 14-race card. Those wins gave Napolitano 25 through the first seven nights of racing.
Joe Pavia Jr. collected training and driving doubles Friday evening, winning with Great Plains (1:55.3) and Daniels Scene (1:54).
Trainer Kirsten Proctor also had a training double on the card. It was her fourth of the season at the northeastern Pennsylvania racetrack. Napolitano was in the bike with both Proctor-trained horses, Nicky Hanover (1:53.4) and Lubbock (1:55.1). (Pocono Downs)
