He Wants It All, the two-time defending champion of the Isle of Capri Pace, won his seasonal debut at Pompano Park on Saturday, taking the third-race featured event, a $10,000 Open Handicap Pace in 1:52.1

Driven from post seven by Wally Hennessey, He Wants It All quickly cleared the field to make the lead on the first turn, cruising through an opening quarter mile in :26.4. Passing the grandstand for the first time, Hennessey grabbed a tight hold of He Wants It All and geared down the 7 year old, pacing the second quarter in :29.4 to pass the half-mile marker in :56.3.

He Wants It All continued to race comfortably on the lead through a three-quarters split in 1:24.3 before crossing the wire confidently in 1:52.1 to secure the victory. Doctor Viagra (Kevin Wallis) , who tracked He Wants It All from the pocket throughout, was angled off the pylons in mid-stretch and made a mild gain on the leader, but could do no better than second. JK Big Shot (Brett Miller) closed well to finish third, but was never threatening the top pair.

He Wants It All is owned by Michael Polansky of Loudonville, New York, and is trained by Tom Harmer. A two-time winner of the Isle of Capri Pace, He Wants It All has visited the winner’s circle in 39 of 73 starts and has a career bankroll over $810,000.

Track Superintendent Randy Dawson had the Pompano oval in prime shape on Saturday as evidenced by the evening’s ninth race when I Can Only Imagine paced a mile in 1:50 for the team of Polansky, Harmer and driver Brett Miller.

The clocking was the third fastest mile in Pompano Park history and was one-fifth of a second off the track record of 1:49.4, which is co-held by Parson’s Den (1999) and He Wants It All (2006). It was also a lifetime best for the 5-year-old son of Cole Muffler.

In the evening’s fifth event, the 8-year-old pacer Cam Bo Informal covered a mile in 1:52, knocking two seconds off his previous lifetime mark, while career best times were also recorded by pacers Talbotwesternflame (1:52.2) in race six and Hollywood Best (1:54.1) in race 10. (Pompano Park)
