Heza Challenger shrugged off the effects of a month’s layoff, a poor post position and a persistent bid by Voila American to capture his fourth straight victory in Tuesdays $25,000 Preferred Handicap Trot at the Meadows.
Assigned post nine, Heza Challenger was parked out for much of the first quarter before reaching the front for Brett Miller. That rough opening panel was the signal for Tony Hall to send Voila American uncovered after the leader from sixth. The pair dueled for the balance of the mile, with Heza Challenger a head better at the wire, in 1:56.2. Primo Spur found late racing room to complete the ticket.
