Already a world champion, Hidden Viggorish added to her laurels on Wednesday at The Meadows, when she captured the $25,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Handicap trot in 1:54.1, a track record for older trotting mares. At age three, Hidden Viggorish went an electrifying, 1:53.1 mile at The Meadows, fastest ever by a sophomore trotter regardless of gender on a five-eighths mile track. Since then, the 6-year-old daughter of SJ's Caviar-Tia Maria has flashed intermittent brilliance. Her performance Wednesday was one of those shining efforts, as she got away second for Brian Zendt, then powered to the lead past the quarter pole. By the top of the stretch, she was clear seven lengths, with the clock the only remaining opponent. Her mile was a tick faster than the previous mark set by Flo N Easy in 2005. Upside Yankee was 9 3/4 lengths back, in second, while Toms OK Lady finished third. Bill Zendt trains Hidden Viggorish, who pushed her career bankroll to $373,379 for Harmony Spring Stable. Dave Palone’s lone win on the 15-race card gave him 12,994 career victories. (The Meadows)
