High stakes for Card Dealer in Cam Fella Final

Return Home
March 20, 2009 Send To A Friend  | Print View

A Camluck gelding named Card Dealer will be playing for the biggest stakes of his career this Saturday night, March 21, when he makes a bid to win the $77,500 final of the Cam Fella Pacing Series at Woodbine.

At barely the age of four, Card Dealer already has 50 starts under his belt, but this is the largest purse he has yet set his sights on. A veteran of Ontario’s smaller ovals in London, Flamborough, and Elora, the gelding seems to like the more expansive racetrack in Rexdale, if his performance in the opening round of the Cam Fella series is any indication.  In that contest, on March 7, he led wire-to-wire to win in 1:53.1, defeating My Masterpiece by a length.

Card Dealer, who is conditioned and co-owned by Don Lindsey with partners Paul Kleinpaste, Bill Alempijevic, and Dennis Mavrin, couldn’t repeat the feat in last week’s sequel, giving way to the onslaught of Rob Fellows trainee, Livefreeordiehard, and fading to fifth.  But with Jody Jamieson back in the bike for the final, and a comfortable post position four, the gelding may be primed to rebound when it counts.  He’s rated the 4-1 second favourite in the morning line, to Casie Coleman pupil, Real Celebration’s, 7-2.

Catch the final of the Cam Fella Pacing Series, for three- and four-year-old non-winners of $100,000, on Saturday night at Woodbine. It’s race #8, post time 9:57 p.m. (WEG)
