Holborn's positive confirmed

Harnessracing.com has learned the split-sample test on Holborn Hanover’s positive for Pyrilamine in the American National in late August has also come back positive. Illinois Racing Board projects manager Mickey Ezzo said early Friday afternoon that the second sample was sent to the lab at Louisiana State University (LSU), which confirmed the positive for the Class 3 drug.

“There will be a hearing set now that the split sample has come back positive for Pyrilamine,” said Ezzo. “The hearing has not yet been scheduled.”

Trainer Brett Robinson received a $2,500 fine from the Racing Board as a result of the positive, which he then appealed, prompting the split sample to be sent to LSU. The winner’s share of the $203,000 race--$97,440—was also ordered returned by owners John Fielding and Canamerica Capital Corp. Lis Mara has subsequently been moved up from second as the official winner.

The American National was raced on Aug. 26, three weeks after Holborn Hanover set a world record with his 1:46.4 win in the U.S. Pacing Championship at the Meadowlands.
