The 2008 New York Sire Stakes series for 3-year-old colt and gelding trotters made a stop at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway on Thursday as five divisions were contested, with Holiday Credit putting forth the most impressive performance of the night when taking his $51,952 split in 1:57.4.
Driven from post three by Jim Morrill Jr., Holiday Credit bided his time in third place through early fractions of :29.1, :59.3., and 1:29 before unleashing one powerful move to seize control of the race on the final turn, sprinting clear of his overmatched rivals to prevail by a length. Owned by Christina Takter, John Fielding, Falkbolagen Ab, and Order by Stable, and trained by Jimmy Takter, the son of Credit Winner, out of the Lindy Lane mare Lady Holiday, has prevailed in nine of 21 starts during his career and boasts a career bankroll in excess of $325,000. Morrill returned two races later to take the second $51,952 Sire Stakes division of the evening when guiding Colie’s through the wire first for the Fred Monteleone Stable LLC and conditioner Chuck Connor Jr. The son of Credit Winner, out of the No Devil mare Just for Sport, was parked through an opening quarter mile in :30, but cleared the front to cut middle fractions of 1:00.4 and 1:30.2 before coming home in :29.3 to stop the timer in 2:00. Morrill tallied his third Sire Stakes win of the night when prevailing with Four Starz Speed, who covered the mile in 1:58.4 when taking his $51,952 split for the ownership of Four Starzzzz Stable LLC and trainer Michael Latham. The son of Conway Hall, out of the Armbro Iliad mare Lotstoliveupto, has prevailed in seven of 10 career starts, including a Sire Stakes triumph at Goshen on July 6. Kenneth Jacobs’ General Royal tallied his second consecutive Sire Stakes score when leading every step of the way to take his $51,592 division in 1:58.4 for trainer Linda Toscano. Driven by Stephane Bouchard, the son of Cr Excalibur, out of the Crysta’s Crown mare Crown Crysta, showed the way through fractions of :28.4, :58.4, and 1:29.2 before trotting home unchallenged to prevail in 1:58.4. Crypto Man had the lead at every call when prevailing in the final $51,952 Sire Stakes event of the evening, scoring in 1:59 for Fred Rappa, trainer David Dziengeil, and driver Kyle Di Benedetto. The victory was the second straight for the homebred son of Malabar Man, out of the Sir Taurus mare Nervey’s Taurus. Offspring of Credit Winner captured two Sire Stakes events on the Thursday card, with offspring of Cr Excalibur, Malabar Man, and Conway Hall prevailing once. (Saratoga)
