Holliday out indefinitely after Batavia spill

Return Home
October 19, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Batavia Downs' leading dash-winning driver Ken Holliday will be out indefinitely after breaking both wrists in a four-horse accident during the fourth race Wednesday night at the racetrack. “Doc” Holliday, as he is commonly called, currently leads Keith Kash Jr. in the 2007 drivers' standings by a 51-43 margin.

The spill occurred when Make Me Money with Vern Smith got rough gaited and made a break. Unable to avoid the breaker River Bend Jessie with Kevin Cummings hit the wheel of Make Me Money and went down. Right behind River Bend Jessie was Coal Charmer with Holliday. Holliday was thrown from the sulky and briefly airborne. Also involved in the spill were Jessica’s Attitude with Mike Porkornowski and Marquise Hanover with Kirk Desmond.

Both Holliday and Cummings were transported to United Memorial Medical Center in Batavia. Cummings suffered facial lacerations and abrasions.

Both Holliday and Cummings were released from the hospital the same night.

Cummings, currently third in the drivers' standings, is off his drives this weekend but could be back by next weekend.

Reinsman Pokornowski and Desmond walked away under their own power.

The four horses involved in the incident suffered scrapes but no serious injuries. (Batavia Downs)
