Honorable Daughter Gets Up for 1:55.3 2YO Filly Trot victory

Honorable Daughter had to grind it out down the home stretch, but caught Yursa Hanover in her last stride at the wire for a 1:55.3 victory in the $700,000 Breeders Crown 2-year-old filly trot at the Meadowlands Saturday night. Southwind Wasabi and Cat Manzi finished third in a close finish with I Wanted Wings.

Yursa Hanover, with Daniel Dube in the bike, took the lead from Musical Mystery just past the :57.3 half, with Honorable Daughter and John Campbell following first-over. Campbell popped the ear plugs midway through the final turn, but Yursa Hanover, who won her elimination last week in 1:56.2, passed the three quarters in 1:26.2 and held strong into the lane. But Honorable Daughter, who wore her down.

“I think this was one of her best races of the year,” said Campbell, who recorded his 43rd Breeders Crown victory. “She really had to gut it out. She was there when I called on her late.

Campbell said he was waiting for a late rally. “The fractions were going to be stiff, and I just didn’t want to get into a speed duel and have her get tired down near the wire. I would have preferred to come with cover, but it just didn’t work out that way.”

The Malabar Man filly scored her ninth race in 11 starts this year for trainer Ray Remmen and owners Paolo Rosanelli and John Siena.
