Interest was high in the first session of the Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale, held Friday afternoon, October 30. A total of 98 yearlings brought $989,400, good for an average of $10,096. The session was led by Straight Jack, a Third Straight colt purchased by Anthony Lombardi for $33,000. Consigned by Schwartz Boarding Farm, the colt is a full brother to McStraight, a winner of nearly $63,000 in his freshman campaign.

Another Third Straight yearling, StraitStraitStrait, closely followed with a $32,000 final bid. Also consigned by Schwartz Boarding Farm, the filly is out of Matt’s Scooter mare Roseisaroseisarose. She was purchased by Bobby Brower, who signed the ticket as agent.

Mark’s Way, a Mark Johnathan gelding, was purchased by trainer Dan Bowermaster for $30,000. Mark’s Way is out of Precious Bunny mare Figmental, a producer of Marks Mindy ($324,775), Electric Lad ($64,820) and two-year-old gelding Marky Mike, a winner of $57,250 during his freshman campaign.

Several horsemen from outside the Hoosier State were active during Hoosier Classic’s first session. Trainer Erv Miller signed three tickets, purchasing Miss Rocket Fuel, a sister to Indiana Sires Stakes champion Rocket Fuel ($391,535), for $22,000. Burke Racing LLC was also active, purchasing two yearlings for $26,000. Dream Kid, a Cincinnati Kid first foal from Promising Catch mare Kandy Angus, was hammered down for $14,000. Ron Burke also bought Skyway Flight, a Panspacificflight filly out of So Very Happy, for $12,000.
