Hoosier hosts sire stakes

Universal Star led wire to wire to win the second $16,000 division of Indiana Sire Stakes action in 1:55.2 Thursday at Hoosier Park, while Los Barvos captured the first split in 1:58.2.

Driven by Dale Hiteman, Universal Star led runner-up Big Boy Josh and driver Charlie Conrad across the wire by 1 ¾ lengths, with Awesome Tom and driver Neil Coleman third.

The win was Universal Star’s sixth in nine starts this year. The 5-year-old son of Keep It A Secret is trained by Doug Hamilton for owners Jackie and Sally Jo Richard and Renee Irvine.

Los Barvos kicked home in :28 flat to post his second win of the year in eight attempts. Bigboybyetsem and Norm Dessureult finished second over Rick Farrington and CC Love The Red for third.
Los Barvos is owned by Wendy Crissman and Ruthi Joseph. The 7-year-old Vision's Pride gelding now has more than $285,000 in career earnings.
