Hoosier Park in approval process

Return Home
August 08, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Hoosier Park’s plans for its new slots facility were granted approval by the Anderson Parks Department at its Aug. 7 meeting. Those same plans will be filed today with Anderson’s Board of Zoning Appeals. Final approvals are then needed by both Indiana’s Gaming and Racing Commissions before ground can be broken on the new facility.

Confirmed plans call for Hoosier Park to construct a new, stand-alone permanent building north of the existing facility that will be connected to the current facility via walkways and escalators. All new slot machines will be housed in that structure. Food and beverage service will continue to be housed in the existing facility, with no changes planned to the racing surface and barn area. A timetable for completion will be established once the various approval processes are complete.

Hoosier Park was the first pari-mutuel horse racing business in Indiana, opening as a Standardbred racetrack in 1994 and adding Thoroughbred racing in 1995.  In addition to the Park, which is located in Anderson 20 minutes north of Indianapolis off I-69, the company also operates off-track betting (OTB) locations in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Merrillville.

Hoosier Park at Anderson, Indiana’s first pari-mutuel racetrack, is a wholly-owned property of Centaur Inc., which also operates Fortune Valley Hotel and Casino in Central City, Colorado. Information about Hoosier Park racing and all Indiana simulcast facilities can be found on the Internet at hoosierpark.com. (Hoosier Park press release)
