Hoosier Park sale approved

The Indiana Horse Racing Commission voted Tuesday, February 27 to approve the sale of Hoosier Park to Centaur Inc. The agreement to purchase the 62 percent majority interest held by Churchill Down Inc. was first announced December 13. Centaur will now serve as sole owner of the Anderson track after holding a 38 percent minority interest since 2001.

Centaur will purchase Churchill Downs Inc.’s interest in Hoosier Park, which also includes satellite wagering facilities in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Merrillville, for an “aggregate” cost of $8.2 million. The agreement previously received approval from the Anderson Department of Parks and Recreation.

According to a statement issued by Centaur the sale is expected to close in mid-March. Hoosier Park’s 14th season of harness racing is slated to begin Friday, April 6. The track will host 61 race dates, concluding Saturday, June 30.
