Hoosier Park seeking to purchase land it sits on

Published reports state Hoosier Park in Indiana won approval Monday to purchase the 110 acres of land it sits now that it now leases from the city of Anderson. In a vote of 3-1, the Anderson Parks Board approved the plan which would guarantee the parks department at least $150,000 annually over five years.

The current lease agreement calls for Hoosier Park to pay $128,000 a year plus .5 percent of pari-mutuel revenue, which brings the average payment to approximately $186,500.

"We want to own our own house," Hoosier Park president and general manager Rick Moore was quoted as saying. "We want to control our own destiny."

The final price for the land has not yet been negotiated. Hoosier Park is planning on opening a 90,000-square-foot racino this year.
