Published reports state HoosierPark in Indiana won approval Monday to purchase the 110 acres of land it sits now that it now leases from the city of Anderson. In a vote of 3-1, the Anderson Parks Board approved the plan which would guarantee the parks department at least $150,000 annually over five years.
The current lease agreement calls for HoosierPark to pay $128,000 a year plus .5 percent of pari-mutuel revenue, which brings the average payment to approximately $186,500.
"We want to own our own house," HoosierPark president and general manager Rick Moore was quoted as saying. "We want to control our own destiny."
The final price for the land has not yet been negotiated. HoosierPark is planning on opening a 90,000-square-foot racino this year.
