January 25, 2008 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Don Boroff, a native of Ohio who was known for having his 2 year olds ready early--and fast at that--died Jan. 24, at his residence in Georgia after a long illness.

Born in Mercer County, Ohio, Boroff served in World War II with the 84th Infanry Division, where he earned several awards, including the Bronze Star for action in the Battle of the Bulge.

After the war Boroff attended several schools, studying animal science. He began training Standardbreds and conditioned three Ohio Horses of the Year: Steady Cloud, Cynthia Iliad and Justabit Of Magic.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn; a daughter, Tonianne Boroff Haynes of Hawkinsville, Ga.; a daughter-in-law, Kay Boroff of Fort Wayne, Ind.; three grandsons, David Basil of Cincinnati; Joshua Hayner of Hawkinsville; and Aaron Boroff of Grabill, Ind.; one sister, Mildred Patrick of Spencerville, Ohio; two brothers, Charles, of Fort Jennings, Ohio, and Richard of Spencerville; and numerous nieces and nephews. One brother, Paul, preceded him in death and two sons, Gregory Scott and Douglas Stacey, who were killed in a plane crash.

Funeral services were scheduled to be held Monday, Jan. 28, at 2 pm in the chapel of Clark Funeral Home in Hawkinsville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Hospice of Cordele, Ga., or a charity of one's choice.
