Horsemen lending hand to Canadian fire victims

Return Home
December 13, 2012 | Print View

When a tragedy takes place in the Standardbred industry, it doesn't take long for the sport's participants to rally and lend a hand to those in need. Racing equipment and cash donations are quickly pouring in to aid those affected by the tragic barn fires in the Goulds, Newfoundland earlier this week.

All horses escaped a Monday blaze at the Beaver Brook Stables, but seven horses and three goats--owned by Kevin and Amy McDonald--perished in a Tuesday morning fire at a barn owned by Dr. Kevin Anderson and Dr. Karla Furey.

Anyone wishing to donate items to the victims of the fires can do so by contacting Mario Glynn (905) 699-9424, Scott Forward (709) 687-6235) or Ken Middleton (519) 222-3711).

Cash donations are also being accepted on behalf of those affected, and an account has been opened in trust of those affected by the fires. Here are the banking details of that account for those wishing to make a cash donation: John Mario Glynn, CIBC, Transit #06072, Account #53-58884. (Ken Middleton)
