A concerted effort by Horseplayers Association of North America (HANA) to impact wagering has apparently worked as betting on the first target race, the sixth at Will Rogers Downs in Oklahoma on Tuesday, increased what the group is calling “100 percent.” HANA had asked its members to wager on a specific race so as to show how much impact bettors can have.

According to figures posted on the association’s website by organizer Mike Mayo, early returns show the following when comparing Tuesday’s sixth race at Will Rogers with the track’s seventh race:

Mutuel Pool: +76 percent
Exacta Pool: +147 percent
Quinella Pool: +62 percent
Trifecta Pool: +92 percent
Superfecta Pool: +60 percent
Overall Pool Bump: Plus 96 percent

Wagering on the race also showed a 77 percent increase from the sixth race on the Tuesday, March 24, card. On this Tuesday’s program, betting on the sixth race showed a 450 percent increase from the day’s fourth race, with the fifth race also showing a rise in wagering. The overall handle on the 11-race card was nearly $250,000, with the Horseplayer’s Association targeted race representing approximately 20 percent of the total.
