Hot N Sporty in 1:50.2

Return Home
August 18, 2005 | Print View

Hot N Sporty shook off the challenge by world champion Lucky's Z Tam and then went on to equal the 1:50.2 world record for 2-year-old gelding pacers in the $55,000 final of the Illinois State Fair Colt Stakes Thursday afternoon at Springfield.

Tony Morgan was in the bike as the undefeated son of Sportsmaster pulled away in the stretch for a 3 3/4-length victory over My Boy David and Pat Berry while Lucky's Z Tam and Andy Miller were third.

Owned and bred by Jim and Donna Crebs and trained by Jim Crebs, who are stabled at the State Fairgrounds track, Hot N Sporty has won all eight of his freshman starts.

Lucky's Z Tam, a gelding who was incorrectly programmed as a colt for the eliminations Friday, Aug. 12, won his elim in 1:50.2, lowering the world record set at Springfield two years ago by Chevie Duramax by one-fifth of a second. He now shares the world mark with Hot N Sporty.

In other Colt Stakes finals Thursday, all worth $55,000, the winners were:

Silhouette Star (Valley Victor) in 1:54.2 for Eric Ledford in the 3-year-old filly trot.

Brianna Joy (Sportsmaster) in a national season's record 1:49.3 for Eric Ledford in the 3-year-old filly pace.

Victor's Finesse (Valley Victor) who was placed first with an official time of 1:55.4 - a season's record - for Andy Miller in the 2-year-old filly trot.

Kissmekissmekissme (Incredible Finale) in 1:52.4 for Jason Dillander in the 2-year-old filly pace.

Fox Valley Cayenne (International Chip) in 1:56.4 for Andy Miller in the 2-year-old colt and gelding trot.
