HOY wins 2nd qualifier

Rainbow Blue won her second consecutive qualifier Thursday morning at Dover Downs, winning easily in 1:54.3 with Jim Morand driving. Taking the lead into the first turn, the 2004 Horse of the Year set fractions of :27.3, :57.3 and 1:26 before coming home in :28.3.



"She's right on schedule," trainer and co-owner George Teague said afterward. "Last week we wanted her to go around 1:57 and to race around 1:54 this week. Next Friday (April 1), we'll take her to the Meadowlands for a qualifier. We want to make sure she'll be ready for her racing schedule. There are a lot of good ones out there, and she has to be ready."



Teague told The Horseman earlier that he is plans to have Rainbow Blue make her 2005 pari-mutuel debut at Dover Downs on April 11 in a special invitational race. That day has also been designated "Rainbow Blue Day in Delaware" by Gov. Ruth Ann Minner.



Earlier this week, Teague, his sister Brenda, and partners Kevin and Ron Fry, were honored by the Delaware legislature for Rainbow Blue's outstanding 2004 season bringing recognition to the Delaware harness racing industry.
