HRTV coverage of Crowns

November 17, 2005 Send To A Friend  | Print View

HorseRacing TV (HRTV) has reached a comprehensive agreement with The Hambletonian Society and Meadowlands Racetrack for exclusive live, uninterrupted coverage of the Breeders Crown Championships, harness racing's richest annual series, from the Meadowlands on Saturday, Nov. 26.

Under the agreement, HRTV will promote, produce and distribute a special Breeders Crown telecast that is designed to showcase the event to viewers throughout the country. HRTV's coverage will include pre-event commercial time, Breeders Crown production enhancements and on-site commentary and analysis on the night of the championships.

The Breeders Crown features the sport's brightest stars competing in eight top-class races, for total purse money of $4.3 million. Each race carries a minimum purse of $500,000, and the results often decide year-end divisional honors among the 2 and 3 year olds by gait (trotter/pacer) and gender.

"The Breeders Crown historically brings together the greatest names in harness racing for a single, spectacular evening," said Jim Bates, senior vice president and general manager of HorseRacing TV. "The plan we have put together with The Hambletonian Society and the Meadowlands combines the resources of all three organizations to give the Breeders Crown Championships the coverage they deserve."

"One of the primary goals of the Breeders Crown is to focus the attention of the racing community, and the sports world in general, on harness racing," said Tom Charters, president and chief executive officer for The Hambletonian Society. "Through its coverage of events like the Little Brown Jug and the Kentucky Futurity, HorseRacing TV has repeatedly demonstrated the commitment to our sport that makes them a valued television partner."

HRTV's exclusive Breeders Crown coverage will begin at 7:15 p.m. ET/4:15 p.m.PT, with Peter Lurie and Kevin Decker, HRTV's harness racing experts, providing insightful commentary and analysis while anchoring the network's comprehensive coverage throughout the evening from its studios. In addition, HRTV will air a series of features that will preview the top contenders and drivers in each of the eight Breeders Crown divisions.

Throughout the week prior to the event, HRTV also will air a special "watch and wager" commercial promoting the Breeders Crown and its exclusive coverage of the event.
