Three of America’s best known harness racing broadcasters--Dave Johnson, Bill Finley and Gary Seibel--have won Harness Tracks of America’s Dan Patch awards for exceptional media, publicity and public relations contributions to the sport. Race of the Week last year presented live coverage of the Hambletonian, Meadowlands Pace, Breeders Crowns, and a multi-stakes afternoon card from Harrah’s Chester Racetrack. Johnson has been a working broadcaster of harness and Thoroughbred events for more than 40 years, was the “Voice of the Triple Crown” for ABC Sports for a quarter of a century, and was co-host with Stan Bergstein of Racing from Roosevelt and Yonkers for New York City OTB on national television on WORTV for 12 1/2 years, from 1974 through 1986.
Seibel is the sport’s best known television personality. As host of Drive Time and other daily features on Television Games Network (TVG), he reaches thousands, and also has for years been co-host of the annual network presentation of the Hambletonian, both on NBC and CBS.
Johnson and Seibel will receive their HTA Dan Patch trophies, along with Finley’s, when they will be reunited with Bergstein as masters of ceremonies at the Racing Congress Night of Stars awards dinner in Bellagio in Las Vegas Wednesday night, Feb. 4. (HTA)
