Huge win by Scarlet Knight

Scarlet Knight won his first start back after a layoff in huge fashion at the Solvalla track in Stockholm Wednesday night, scoring by about 25 lengths in 1:53.4. He'll now meet Mr. Muscleman in the Elitlopp on May 29.



Scarlet Knight was retired from racing earlier this year to exclusively stand at stud, but then was put back into training after the number and quality of mares in his book failed to meet the expectations of owner Stefan Melander. Melander put the 2001 Hambletonian champion back in training and then asked his top Swedish colleague Stig H. Johannson to drive him.



After the race, Johannson was full of praise for Scarlet Knight and indicated he is available to drive the horse in the race.



Scarlet Knight also competed in this year's Prix d'Amerique after finishing second in his very first career start under saddle just one week prior to the French classic.
