The Tattersalls January Select Mixed Sale got underway in the Meadowlands' paddock at 10 am on Monday morning.
The sale was topped by the 4-year-old pacing stallion Hypnotic Blue Chip, who Fran Azur bought with a bid of $325,000. Consigned by Northwood Bloodstock Agency, Hypnotic Blue Chip took a mark of 1:49.2 and ran his career earnings to $571,488 in 2009 for trainer Mark Harder, who also shared ownership of the son of Art Major.
Other strong prices in the racehorse sector were the $175,000 paid for Meant To Be Me, a 5-year-old son of McArdle, and the $160,000 bid for Doubleshotascotch, a 4-year-old son of Dragon Again.
Topping the broodmare segment of the sale was Raising Rachel, a 4-year-old mare by Yankee Glide. Consigned by Peninsula Farm, she was purchased by David Elwell on behalf of Arlene and Jules Siegel's Fashion Farms, with a final bid of $255,000.
Also, breeder Bill Weaver's Valley High Stable is the new owner of Honorable Daughter. Honorable Daughter, who won the 2008 Merrie Annabelle, was purchased with a final bid of $185,000. Northwood Bloodstock Agency consigned the 4-year-old daughter of Malabar Man.
