Hypnotize has mares in a trance at Pompano

For the second consecutive week, Hypnotize proved to be the top female pacer in Florida, capturing the featured $14,000 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace at Pompano Park on Friday in 1:53.

Guided from post five by Kevin Wallis, Hypnotize dropped back to fifth place through the opening stages of the Friday feature as Tintabella N (Daryl Bier) was moved aggressively to the front, cutting out opening fractions of :27.2 and
:56.4 .

As the pacers made their journey down the backstretch, Hypnotize was angled off the pylons to begin her march towards the front, following the cover of Scott’s Sweety (David Ingraham) before passing that rival as Tintabella N reached the three-quarters marker in 1:24.2.

Tintabella N entered the lane with a one-length advantage over a determined Hypnotize, but was unable to fend off the daughter of Mark Johnathan, who powered to the lead by mid-stretch, coasting through the wire a length better than the late charging Armbro Artistic (Anthony Napolitano).

Hypnotize returned $5.80, $4.40, and $2.80 for the victory. Armbro Artistic brought in $8.20 and $4.40 for second, while Prairie Tracker (Brad Hanners) paid $2.40 for third.

Owned by Louis Diffenback, Lisa Diffenback, William Mack Jr., and trainer Jim Mattison, Hypnotize has found the wire first in 12 of her 36 starts this year, including a record of 12 wins from 30 outings at Pompano. The mare owns a seasonal bankroll of $101,445, with lifetime earnings of $207,903. (Pompano Park)
