It was a cool night in south Florida, but driver Bruce Ranger and I Can Only Imagine ($3.60) turned in a hot mile of 1:51.1 in the $16,000 Open pace at the Isle Pompano Park on Saturday. Sugar’s Pride (Joe Pavia, Jr.) got the first call off the gate, but Gotta Go Moe and Wally Hennessey charged right to the lead to take the top pacers to the first quarter in :26.4. Ranger pulled I Can Only Imagine in front of the grandstand to take over the lead from Gotta Go Moe and swung by the half in :55. I Can Only Imagine stayed in command as they passed the three-quarters in a swift 1:22.2, and went on to finish the mile by winning by one-half length. Sahara Hall (Anthony Napolitano) finished second, with Gotta Go Moe finishing third. It was the third win of the year for the 7-year-old Cole Muffler stallion, pushing his earnings to more than $337,000 for owner Michael E. Polansky. I Can Only Imagine is trained by Tom Harmer.
