If I Can Dream won the $160,000 Cleveland Classic at Northfield Park Saturday night, easily coasting to a 1:52.1 victory over Sheer Desire, with Vertical Horizon third.
If I Can Dream started from post position one, but needed to be shook up by driver Tim Tetrick to leave the gate with authority. After Tetrick's whip hit the sulky, If I Can Dream woke up a bit and protected his position as Gordieisanartist left strongly from post two. But Sheer Desire, driven by Dave Palone, had the quickest foot into the first turn and cleared to the pylons. Tetrick settled, then moved If I Can Dream back to the outside as soon as he hit the straightaway.
Palone carried If I Can Dream to about the quarter (:27.1), then If I Can Dream cleared, and the rest of the race was smooth sailing. After tripping the teletimer in :55.3 and 1:24.4, David Miller moved Vertical Horizon off the pylons, but by the time they reached the top of the homestretch they were back on the inside.
If I Can Dream is trained by Tracy Brainard and owned by Bulletproof Enterprises.
