Illinois to discuss problems

The Illinois Racing Board (IRB) has scheduled three days of hearings to address the difficulties and challenges confronting horse racing in Illinois. The hearings, chaired by IRB Commissioner John Simon, will be held on Tuesday, July 18, and Wednesday, July 19, on the 16th floor, room 503, of the James R. Thompson Center, 100 W. Randolph Street in Chicago, starting at 10:00 a.m. The hearing on Monday, July 24 will be held on the 5th floor at 160 North LaSalle Street, Chicago, Illinois, also starting at 10:00 a.m. The hearings are open to the public.

Among the people who will speak at the hearings are Bill Wright of the Illinois Harness Racing Strategic Planning Council, Cottonwood Farm owner Terry Hunt, Hall of Fame Thoroughbred trainer D. Wayne Lucas, Hall of Fame Jockey Gary Stevens, USTA President and Balmoral Park racing director Phil Langley, Standardbred trainers Ervin Miller and David McCaffrey, Standardbred owner-breeders Ed Teefey and Jim Reynolds, and John Walzak of the Ontario Harness Horsemen’s Association.
