In a sparkling performance, Elmer Fannin and George Teague Jr.’s I’m Gorgeous went wire to wire to capture the Cane Pace elimination at Freehold Raceway Saturday afternoon in the track-record-equaling time of 1:50.4.
Woodstock, a $35,000 supplemental entry, finished three quarters of a length behind the winner and 2 3/4 lengths ahead of third-place finisher Valentino. Rockin Image and Urgent Action finished fourth and fifth, respectively, to make it into Labor Day’s $300,000 Cane Pace final, the first leg in pacing’s Triple Crown.
With Andy Miller in the driver’s seat, I’m Gorgeous, a son of Bettor’s Delight, set fractions of :26.2, :55, 1:22.2 and stopped the teletimer 1:50.4, equaling the mark held by both Art Official and Vintage Master.
I’m Gorgeous returned $5.20 to win as the second choice, sparking an exacta of $12.80 and a trifecta worth $43.20.
The first five finishers in the Cane Pace elimination will join BG’ Folly, Delmarvalous and One more Laugh, all of whom elected to take byes in to the final by virtue of their 2010 seasonal earnings. (Freehold)
