Ruling Class, Warrawee Lassie and Wilsonator all turned in impressive victories in Monday’s trio of $40,000(C) Ontario Sire Stakes Gold eliminations for 2-year-old filly trotters at Mohawk Racetrack.
It was Ruling Class marching straight to the front from post eight in the first elimination for driver Paul MacDonell and the daughter of Angus Hall - Rare Elegance wired the field in 1:58.3. She turned back Cross Of Lorraine and Julia Jet for her first career victory in five tries for trainer John Bax.
The victory increased her purse earnings to just over $61,000 for owners Bob and David Anderson, Parkhill Stud Farm and Harry Locke. Ruling Class returned $6.10 as the slight favorite.
In the second split, Warrawee Lassie overcame some traffic trouble at the top of the stretch to post a sharp off-the-pace victory for driver Rick Zeron in 1:58.3. The daughter of Kadabra-Independent Lassie upended Rebelious Royalty and Angel Creek for her third consecutive win over the Campbellville oval.
She bumped her earnings up over $40,000 for trainer Frank Oreilly who co-owns along with Dr. Michael Wilson and John and Jim Fielding. She returned a generous $11.60 to her backers.
Wilsonator used a gate-to-wire approach in taking the final elimination for driver Mike Saftic in 1:57.1, the fastest of the three elims. The daughter of Kadabra-Sahalee easily held off Isthatallyagot with Windcross landing the show spot.
Wilsonator improved her record to two wins in three starts for trainer Mike Wade and owners Michael Pozefsky of New York and Edward Wilson of Ontario. She returned $5.90 while improving her earnings to just over $46,000.
The $130,000(C) OSS Gold final will go postward next Monday night at Mohawk. Here’s a look at the field in post position order:
