Inaugural Goldstein Memorial gala night set at Pompano

The details have come together for the establishment of a showcase night of annual racing at The Isle Pompano Park. On Saturday, February 6th, it will be built around the inaugural Bernie Goldstein Memorial Pace for a $50,000 purse.
 
"It's really great to be able to able to announce this and position a top notch night of harness racing at The Isle Pompano Park on the eve of the Super Bowl here in South Florida" says The Isle Pompano Park's Director Of Racing, John Yinger. "We feel it's important to preserve and honor the memory of Bernie Goldstein. In gaming circles he was known as the 'Godfather of Riverboat Gambling'. He was also the visionary that began the Isle Of Capri casino chain which brought a major gaming attraction to many markets in the United States that wouldn't have otherwise had that" Yinger adds. "At our property, he was also instrumental in the purchase of Pompano Park more than ten years before everything came together for the company to establish the casino here. We feel this will commemorate his crucial contributions to the preservation and legacy of harness racing at Pompano Park."
 
The plan thus far for February 6th at The Isle Pompano Park calls for:
 
  *the inaugural Bernie Goldstein Memorial Free For All/Invitational Pace for a $50,000 purse;
 
  *a fillies and mares Open/Invitational Pace for a $30,000 purse;
 
  *and, an Open/Invitational Trot for a $30,000 purse.
 
  "In the coming weeks we'll have announcements about other attractions that night too" Yinger says. "It's Super Bowl weekend here in South Florida and we'll be tying into the football theme in a big way. Other attractions are planned for our fans and visitors too. This will give us two premium nights of racing for the 2009-2010 meet since the inaugural Bernie Goldstein Memorial Pace program is in addition to the Florida Breeders Super Night back on December 5th. The next month's planning and lead up to February 6th is going to be really exciting" Yinger adds.
 
Daley Doubles On
Saturday Night
 
  Though the January 8th program at The Isle Pompano Park began under a temperature of 41 degrees (5C.) and more weather records during the cold spell were set to be broken, veteran horseman Dan Daley seemed oblivious to all of it.
 
Thanks to sweeping both of his starts on Saturday night, Daley has won 8 of his 15 starts driving and training in South Florida in the current meet.
 
Daley Deposit Only benefitted from a perfect pocket trip to snare the top prize in the $13,000 Open Handicap Pace. Vapor In The Wind with Ricky Macomber Jr. in tow left from the outside in the field of eight and laid down fractions of 27.3, 56.4 and 1:24.4. Daley Deposit Only was angled out at the head of the stretch and edged by well before the wire to win in 1:53. Vapor In The Wind stoutly held second while I've Got The Power in rein to Bruce Ranger closed up for third.
 
The winner is an Artiscape-Sassy Cessiann homebred gelding owned by his breeder, Ann-Mari Daley of Coral Springs. She shares ownership on the 14-time career winner of over $131,000 with J. Daley, R. Lombardo and Robert Pergament.
 
Dan Daley's other training and driving win was with five year old CR Excalibur-About Half Quick trotting mare Winbak Half. Though moving up in class again on Saturday night, she was a well backed $4.80 winner in a $6,000 purse conditioned test. Winbak Half is now on a three race win streak after this score over Perfect Bubbles with Don Cromer up and Aviewtoakill partnered by Fern Paquet Jr.
 
When racing resumes at 7:05 p.m. on Monday, January 11th at The Winter Capital Of Harness Racing there's a pick-4 carryover of just under $1,000 into the 5th race.
