Incredible Cal-Expo win

The best pacers on the grounds at Cal-Expo Raceway slugged it out Wednesday night in the $12,570 Albatross Free For All Handicap Pace and Doggone Incredible circled the field, winning in 1:51.2.

Following his cover four wide to the top of the stretch and moving five and six wide for the drive, the 4-year-old gelding by The Big Dog kicked into gear.

"Once we straightened away--he seemed to be going a little faster than the horses we had to catch,” said driver Jim Lackey “This made me start to think I could get home. He got to everybody in the last sixteenth of a mile while everybody else seemed to be spent. Once he got to the front, it was reasonable to think he'd stay there to the wire and he did.

“Obviously the pace was favorable for him, but being that he has shown he can race on the lead or from behind makes him a better horse overall. The race went his way tonight, but take nothing away from him, he's a very good horse."

Owned by Hei and Pamela Mitchell in partnership with trainer Bob Johnson, Doggone Incredible zoomed past his foes with a :27 second final-quarter to win by 2 1/4 lengths,

Edison Hanover got his nose up in the last stride to get up for second, and Mulcay N had to settle for show honors.
