Incredible Tempo in TLC

Return Home
March 02, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

As Meadowlands announcer Sam McKee put it, the $60,000 Tender Loving Care Series final for 3-year-old pacing filliies was a "blow out" as Southwind Tempo scored by 11 1/2 lengths in a lifetime best 1:51.4 Friday night at the Meadowlands. The filly by Bettor's Delight has now won three of four starts this season after a three-for-three campaign as a freshman.

Steve Elliott trains Southwind Tempo for Alton E. "Toby" Lynch Jr. Lynch had also been driving Southwind Tempo, but he underwent knee surgery last month after steering the filly to a victory in the first Tender Loving Series leg.

Tim Tetrick handled the driving this time and allowed J Lo Hanover and Art's Lady Diana to take turns on the lead before making a typical swoop to the front just past the opening marker (:27). Southwind Tempo hit the halfway mark in :54.4 before anyone moved, and didn't even have a foe within earshot until the three-quarter markter (1:23.4).

That's when Tetrick asked his filly for pace and she responded like a jet, pulling away to a 9 3/4-length margin at the top of the homestretch.

Striptease Hall was second while Amber Blue Chip took third.
