Indiana dates announced

Indiana's 2006 racing calendar calls for the same number of dates as were offered by Hoosier Park and Indiana Downs in 2005, but includes some minor modifications. A total of 141 programs will comprise the meetings at both tracks, including twilight racing at Indiana Downs.



The Indiana Horse Racing Commission unanimously approved the 2006 calendar during a meeting Thursday, Nov. 10. In a previous meeting, commissioners tabled consideration of race dates when concern was voiced over a 19-day gap between the conclusion of Hoosier Park's spring meet and Indiana Downs' summer program.



Thursday's resolution includes a 12-day gap after management of the Shelbyville oval opted to adjust their request. As part of the amended request, Indiana Downs will offer twilight racing two days a week in October and early November of the 81-day meet while cutting back from five programs each week to four. Racing dates at each facility are as follows:



Hoosier Park – 60 days

April 1 – June 24

Racing conducted Wednesday through Sunday



Indiana Downs – 81 days

July 7 – November 4

Racing conducted Tuesday through Saturday July through September with a 6:55 p.m. first post. In October and November first post is scheduled for 3:55 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday and 6:55 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
