Four-year-old Cabana Fever added her name to Indiana Downs’ record books Tuesday evening, September 16 with an impressive 1:51 victory. The daughter of Real Desire, driven by Trace Tetrick, established a new track record for older pacing mares with the victory. Earlier in the program freshman pacer Suprizemeagain equaled his track mark in an Indiana Sires Stakes victory. Coming into Tuesday’s seventh race, a $20,000 filly and mare invitational pace, Cabana Fever had won twice in eight starts. Trained by Erv Miller for Deo Volente Farms, LLC of New Jersey, the pacer drew post four in the field seven. When the gate folded, Tetrick floated out next to last as Locamotion Baby and then Go On BB took turns on the lead. The second choice would remain there through a :56 opening half. Once Tetrick moved Cabana Fever, she quickly advanced to third by the three-quarter mile marker as Go On BB and Ricky Macomber Jr. slipped past the station in 1:24.3. As the field turned for home, Cabana Fever throttled by the competition, sprinting home in :26 flat to win by four and one-half lengths at the wire. Favorite Go On BB finished second while Locamotion Baby rounded out the trifecta. The winning time lowered the mark for older pacing mares at the Shelbyville oval by three-fifths of a second. Kentucky Brew previously held the record, set in September 2005. Prior to setting the track record with Cabana Fever, Tetrick equaled another with freshman pacing colt Suprizemeagain. The Western Hero freshman romped in his $15,000 Indiana Sires Stakes contest, destroying the field by nine and three-quarter lengths in a time of 1:52.1. The performance matched the colt’s record effort in capturing the $75,000 ISS final September 6. Lining up in post four, the Shawn Nessa trainee got away fifth for Tetrick. The favorite would race off the pace through opening panels of :27.1 and :56.4 before taking command. Once in front, Tetrick and Suprizemeagain extended their margin to seven lengths at the top of the stretch before closing out the mile with a :27 last quarter. Star City Hero raced second and Up Town Watts was third. Now a winner in eight of nine starts, Suprizemeagain continues to impress. Owned by Angie Nessa, Bart Seales and PBV Me ASAP Horse Stable, the colt has earned $124,300. In the second $15,000 ISS division, favorite Evening Job and Macomber cruised to a two-length score in 1:54.4. The Dream Work colt, bred by Robert McIntosh Stables Inc., is owned by Sylvia Burke, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, Frank Baldachino and JJK Stables LLC. He is trained by Mickey Burke. Tetrick finished Tuesday’s 13-race program with four wins. He is currently battling Mark O’Mara for leading driver honors. Tetrick, who will turn 22 later this month, won the title last fall at Indiana Downs and took home top honors at Hoosier Park earlier this year.
