After finishing second to Gale Warning in last week’s Pompano Park trotting feature, Indian Hill Rocket turned the tables on that rival when capturing Monday’s $14,000 Open Handicap Trot at the South Florida oval in 1:58. Starting from post four with Kevin Wallis at the lines, Indian Hill Rocket seized the lead the moment the gate swung open, marching through an opening quarter mile in :29 before slowing things down considerably with a second panel in :31.1 to reach the half-mile pole in 1:00.1. The Linda Wallis trainee continued to lull his rivals into submission when trotting by the three-quarters marker in 1:30, entering the stretch with a 1 ½-length advantage before holding sway down the lane to prevail by 1 ¼ lengths over Gale Warning (Wally Hennessey). Indian Hill Rocket returned $9, $3 and $2.20 for the victory. Gale Warning paid $2.10 and $2.10 for second, while C Le Noir (Gerry Kazmaier) brought in $3 for third. Owned by Yvette Prudenzano and Basil Kellis, Indian Hill Rocket has prevailed in four of 10 starts since returning to Pompano from Northfield Park in November of last year. The stakes-winning son of Corleone, out of the Arnies Exchange mare Ruby Exchange, boasts a lifetime bankroll of $153,950. (Pompano Park)
