Indy Downs to host quartet of Kentuckiana contests Friday

A group of 31 freshman trotting fillies will converge on Indiana Downs Friday, August 22 for the Kentuckiana Stallion Management Stakes. Four divisions will be offered on the 13-race card, and will feature several notable entries.

The $70,225 first division includes Dover Miss, runner up in the $523,600 Merrie Annabelle final at the Meadowlands. The Andover Hall freshman has two wins to her credit with a mark of 1:57.1 and more than $160,000 in earnings. She is trained by Ron Gurfein and will be driven by Mike Lachance. Be My Baby, runner-up in the $175,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes championships, has also drawn into the first division. The Trond Smedshammer trainee has two second-place finishes in four starts. Missy’s Doubt Fire, a 2:00.3 winner with $32,128 in earnings, is also entered.

Margarita Momma heads a group of eight in the $70,225 second division. The Yankee Glide filly finished third in both the Merrie Annabelle and New Jersey Sire Stakes championships. She has one win to her credit and nearly $102,000 in seasonal earnings. Margarita Momma is joined by Jeansandatshirt, a 1:57.3 winner in the $38,000 Review Stakes.  The daughter of Self Possessed is trained by Erv Miller. Canoli (1:59.1), Perfect Prelude and RS Giggles will also start.

The third $70,225 division includes a group of eight trotters, five of which have scored victories in their young careers. Fresh off her stakes record victory in the Hoosier Stake in Indianapolis, One Tough Girl has drawn the outside Friday. The Muscles Yankee two year old trotted to a 1:56.4 victory in her debut for Chuck Sylvester. Like A Prayer freshman Dancing Filly, a winner in 1:57 at The Red Mile, is also slated to compete. The trotter has earned $18,750 in two starts. Highland Ridge, winner of a W.N. Reynolds Memorial Stakes split, is also entered. The Tom Ridge filly took a mark of 1:59.4 in the victory and possesses $20,767 in earnings.

The final split, attracting seven entries, will carry a purse of $68,975. Musical Mystery, a 1:58.1 winner in the second Hoosier Stake division at Indianapolis, starts from post four. The Cantab Hall lass has won twice for Gurfein and Lachance and has earned $35,844 thus far. To her outside is Ellen Harvey, an Andover Hall freshman trained by Jimmy Takter. Victorious in Pennsylvania Sires Stakes action, the filly leads the group with earnings of $45,970. Yankee Glide filly Celebrity Athena is also entered, as is Greathearted, a two-time winner and third-place finisher to One Tough Girl in her last start.
