Interests in new ownership at Meadows ask to withdraw names

Because of concerns of what an attorney called “confidentiality,” three groups involved in a partnership that is purchasing The Meadows Racetrack & Casino have asked to withdraw because they don’t want to publicly disclose their names. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board requires that all names of the new ownership group be known, and what percent each would have.

Crown Ltd. of Australia was approved late last month by the Board to purchase  Cannery Casino Resorts, the Nevada-based parent company of The Meadows as well as three Las Vegas casinos, for $1.8 billion.

According to published reports, the Board declined the attorney’s request to discuss the matter in closed session and it also tabled the withdrawal petition, asking for more time for consideration.

A story in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette revealed that the names of the three entities asking to withdraw have only been identified as: Custodians Settlement No. 6, Custodians Settlement No. 8 and Genetout No. 6. One person, identified as Gretel Packer, has also withdrawn her name. She is the sister of Crown Ltd. chairman James Douglas Packer.
