IPO Blue Chip, a stakes contender last fall and fresh from finishing third in the Flower St. final at Chester, bested eight male opponents to win the $14,500 feature trot Saturday at Dover Downs with Brad Hanners driving the 1:57.1 victory for owner-Freida Ivory.
The Yankee Glide-Paloma Hanover 4-year-old distaff was followed across the finish line by CC’s Fred (Sean Bier), whose two-race win streak ended with a second-place finish and Timbogo (Matt Kakaley) third. The win lift’s IPO Blue Chip’s career bankroll to $67,870. Rusty’s Gamble sat outside race favorite Victor Vuitton N (George Dennis) from before the three-quarter pole until deep stretch before pulling away to a 1:53 conquest in a $10,000 male pace. It was Mike Cole’s second winning drive of the day. The Bettor’s Delight-Triste Hanover gelding is owned and trained by Todd Wise. Artists Rally (Kakaley) was second with Mattifioso (Ron Pierce) the third finisher. Craig Prettyman’s Racing Naked (Corey Callahan), a 1:56 winner, and Eric Foster’s 12-1 Beechwood Terror (Kakaley) won $20,000 male claiming paces. Ron Pierce and Mike Cole had driving triples, Corey Callahan and Kakaley each had two wins. (Dover)
