Irons still hot at Woodbine

In the Irons established himself as one of Woodbine's top 3 year olds with a tremendous 2 3/4-length victory in the $59,800(C) final of the Youthful Pacing Series Friday night. Phil Hudon drove the son of Mach Three to a lifetime-best 1:51.2 win for trainer Randy Hill, who also owns a piece of the bay colt with Mike Davis and Leslie Davis.

Radio City was a solid second, but no match for In the Irons, who now has wins in three straight, including the Apaches Fame final last month. Tell All was third, beaten 6 1/2 lengths.

Early on, Crazy Dan grabbed the lead, but before the turn, Radio City took over in :27 flat. Before the half-mile pole, Hudon gunned In the Irons to the front, seizing the advantage through a :55.4 clip.

Radio City, who sat the pocket trip, looked a threat in mid-stretch after three quarters of a mile in 1:23.2, but In the Irons had another gear and drew off to score his third win of the campaign and fifth overall ($103,770 in career earnings).

"He's a real nice horse," Hudon said. "When you get him to the front, he doesn't like to let them by. I was able to shut him down over the last few steps. I believe he's got plenty of speed left. He's done everything asked of him so far. It's nice to drive horses that like to go forward."

In The Irons, a New York-bred, paid $7.30, $4.60, $2.50 across the board and combined with Radio City ($7.30, $4) for a $62.70 exactor. The Ill Be Seeing You-Tell All entry returned $2.10 to show and wrapped up a $176.20 triactor. (WEG)
