Marcella Rebecca Irvine, the matriarch of an Ohio harness racing family, died Sunday at age 80 in Northfield, Ohio, following an extended illness.
After being surprised with a horse by her husband Don, her entire family became involved with harness racing. Many weekends were spent at the racetracks.
She is survivied by two sons, William "Bill" of Jeromesville, Ohio, and Donald of Anderson, Ind.; two daughters, Janet Irvine and Marcella "Jodi" Pajestka, both of Northfield, Ohio; six grandchildren, Wyatt Irvine, Erin McKee, Brad Irvine, Michelle McCullough, Justin Irvine and Dwight Jones; one great-grandson, Braedon McCullough; three sisters, Shirley Turner-Peterson, Creta Berger, both of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and Karen Varner of Mount Gilead; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Irvine was preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Mae Irvine, and by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Vivian Trowbridge.
