Robin I Scoot, controlled by Don Irvine Jr., charged down the stretch to win the third leg of the Indiana Sires Stakes Saturday, May 31 at Hoosier Park. The three-year-old gelding has finished first in five out of eight races in 2008. Andy’s Z Tam, managed by Don Eash, raced out of the gate to take the lead over Dontlookatthesky, guided by Ricky Macomber Jr. Reaching the quarter-mile mark in :26.0, Andy’s Z Tam held onto the lead, with Dontlookatthesky following along in second. Firing toward the halfway mark in :55.0, Robin I Scoot passed Andy’s Z Tam to take a commanding three-length lead. Approaching the three-quarter mile mark in 1:23.2, Andy’s Z Tam was trying to slim the lead down, but Robin I Scoot kept his momentum going. In the stretch, Robin I Scoot held the lead by five lengths. The son of I Scoot Hanover was strong to the finish in a time of 1:52.0, winning by nine lengths. Topville Dynamic, driven by Trace Tetrick, and Mayflower, guided by Jay Cross finished second and third respectively. “I felt comfortable making the lead before the halfway mark,” Irvine Jr. said. “Andy’s Z Tam got used up on the first half. He (Robin I Scoot) was never in trouble. He was well in hand.” Owned by Dan Perdue and Shady Lane Meadows, Robin I Scoot has earned more than $144,000 in his lifetime. The sophomore standout returned $2.20, $2.10, and $2.10 for his latest performance. Robin I Scoot is trained by Perdue, who is based out of the Darke County Fairgrounds in Greenville, Ohio. He is now 14 for 23 during his career. Freddyscooter and Brad Hanners turned in a record mile to win the third leg of the three-year-old Indiana Sires Stakes for colts and geldings Saturday, May 31 at Hoosier Park. Freddyscooter beat out the field of 11, clocking in at 1:53.0 for the $12,000 purse. I Scoot For Cash and driver Don Eash had an early lead which they maintained past the quarter-mile mark in :26.0 and heading to the halfway point in :56.1. Unrecognized Saint, controlled by Trace Tetrick, was first up followed by Blue Punch and Shawn Christner, coming out from cover. The two horses made their way to the front, passing the leader at the three-quarter mile mark in 1:24.4. Unrecognized Saint held the lead, but was challenged quickly by Rocknroll Band, with Bill Dailey in the sulky. Rocknroll Band, with a full head of steam, powered to the front, but only for a second. Freddyscooter was quick on his heels out to take the lead and did so by a head as the pair crossed the line. Dreaming Royalty and Jason Dillander came in third. “I was just trying to find a way out of there,” Brad Hanners said. “I followed Bill Dailey up and around. When I finally got free, he (Freddy Scooter) did the rest.” The victory behind Freddyscooter was the second of three wins during the night for Hanners. He is currently third in the driver standings with 39 total wins. It marked the second seasonal win for Freddyscooter, returning $9.20, $5.00, and $4.00. Steve Brannan and Fred Shiery are the owners. Brannan also trains the half-brother to the stable standout, Rebelman. “Steve (Brannan) is a great trainer, especially with young horses,” Hanners said. “He makes my job look easy.” It was a double win night for Brannan. Rebelman took home top honors in the $23,000 Invitational Pace later on in the program. Both horses are out of his mare, Precious Sarah, one of the mares at his farm in Bryan, Ohio. (Hoosier Park)
