After being used twice in the mile in the Milton Stakes final raced over a "sloppy" track at Mohawk Saturday night, three-time Dan Patch Award winner Loyal Opposition faded to seventh, nearly eight lengths behind the 1:51.2-winning Glowing Report. Trainer Erv MIller told harnessracing.com Monday that he was still hoping to race the 6-year-old mare in the Allerage Farms Series this Saturday at The Red Mile, but that it could be one of her last--if not her final--starts of her career.
"She got a real roughed-up trip out of the nine hole (in the Milton)," said Miller. "(Driver George Brennan) used her hard leaving and then used her right back. She was only in for about an eighth of a mile."
Miller said he has been discussing retiring the daughter of Cole Muffler with owner Daniel Waxman, and that it is likely the winner of $2,839,711 won't see the starting gate too many more times.
"I thnk this year is it, and I'll let you know when it's official," said Miller. "But it won't be long, I don't think."
